Life After graduating from Open Campus East, I went to Dekalb and took classes at Ga. State, working for my tuition tending bar in many local dives- Will Henrys' pool hall, the Copper Dollar Saloon to name a couple. Most classes were attended bleary-eyed and sick. Worked at Fellinis Pizza and the Little 5 Points Pub in the mid-80's. Made a lot of friends of ill-repute, had a lot of fun. Got my nose broken twice. Met my ex- wife of 19 years in '85, just back from Australia visiting family. We divorced in 2007. Decided to join the service to continue paying for school, and to generally clean up my act. Guinness Stout and eggs for breakfast, etc. Decided on the Air Force, but they had a waiting list of six months, so joined the Army for four years with a guarantee of an assignment in Germany. Trained as a communications specialist, went to Germany, had ups and downs- see mil bio for more. Got caught up in the excitement of GW1 (Gulf War One. I was "involuntarily extended" for a year past my original enlistment. Finished my degree. We were expecting our first child at this time and we barely made it back to the States in time for Dylan to be born in an American hospital. Dylan is now 17. Was assigned for a time to the Honor Guard at Ft.Mac doing military honor funerals, then spent the last 9 months at Ft.Benning. Returned to Atlanta in '92, went to work for Motorola as a Field Engineer, stayed there for 3 years and then took a job as technical manager for a local banking equipment company. Adopted a Ukrainian boy (five at the time) in 2000. Left my job in 2003 after 9 years, 4 as VP of marketing and new product development to start my own equipment brokerage firm, Bankworks Financial Equipment. Third child, Elsa, born 2002. A true beauty inside and out, kids are fantastic. I lived intown Atlanta since '92, one of the original "urban pioneers" of East Atlanta and Ormewood Park. Spent 6 years restoring my current 1914 Craftsmen home (which my ex and the kids live in, I just split the mortgage). I now live in the little town of Pine Lake, GA (all 800 of us) safest community in GA for three straight years! We have our own PD and mayor. Lots of hippy trippy types, artists musicians etc. Some you probably hear on the radio. I was involved in Scouting with my oldest son as an Asst. Scoutmaster with his troop. I attended Wood Badge training. Dylan and I recently restored my old Vespa scooter. We ride to the park on nice days. My ex- wife Sally was president of LEAD, a non-profit advocacy group for secular homeschoolers that connects families for organized classes...Expand for more
