Eric's Story
Life
As of 02/16/2007:
What can I say about me? I am a Christian. I love my family (wife,Deborah for 24 years, 3 daughters, Ashley 18, Erin 17, and Simone 15). I love my job as a Software Engineer for IBM.
As a Christian, I continue to run this race (life journey). I will finish the race, knowing I have fought the good fight. I plan to spend eternity with Christ (because, that's what He promised me). While, I wait and hope for eternity, I plan to enjoy this life He has given me with my family, friends, foes, and strangers. In spite of life challenges, I am keeping the faith and am enjoying life to its fullest!
My thoughts and prayers are that each and every human being will embrace a "core-value" system that is of some "faith-based" system. Without a "core-value" system, one will find it extremely difficult to meet life challenges. My "faith-based" system is based on Christianity. Anyone who encounters me, I will always offer you Jesus as the center for your "core-value" system. Because He has been the one, that has sustain me (certainly in my life most difficult challenges). Please note, that I said I will "offer", not force/threaten/scare you to embrace the faith that I have espoused. I will share with you, for those who are interested, why I have chosen my faith. Hopefully, if you are seeking or trying to develop your own "faith-based" system - my sharing will help you in your process.
Stay the Course! Keep the Faith! I love you!
College
College was a blast! If I could do it over again, I wouldn't do it much different (maybe take studying more seriously). My computer science professor (also my adviser), Danny Carter, was great! His classes were a blast! Once a classmate was sleeping (must have been partying all night) in class, Danny Carter took the eraser and threw it - hit him right on the forehead! While attending USM, I pledge Omega Psi Phi my freshman year (Spring 76). Because USM was on the quarter system, I was actually a sophomore in course credits and therefore permitted to pledge my freshman school year. The camaraderie and bond that was made with my pledge brothers was extremely valuable. Pledging helped me understand early, the value of relationships. I've carried this throughout my career. And it has proven to be valuable in every relationship I've established across the years.
Workplace
As of 02/16/2007:
I have worked as a software engineer in the IT (Information Technology) industry for the past 27 years. After graduating from university, the first seven years were spent working for Honeywell in Los Angeles. I left Honeywell and moved to San Jose in 1987 to work for IBM. In 1996, transfer to Poughkeepsie, New York. Currently, I'm a Senior Technical Staff Member with IBM. I have stayed on the technical path my entire career - i.e., I've never held a management position and hopefully never will. My passion is delivering technology (software architecture, design and development) to the market-place. I've held various positions through out my career within IBM - primarily in software architecture, design, and development. Currently working in Poughkeepsie IBM Design Center for On Demand Business, where we do first-of-a-kind projects worldwide to enable and integrate leading-edge technologies into the clients' infrastructure.
I mentor many young African Americans that are coming out of university into the work-place. I try to steer them toward the technical career path. Hopefully, encouraging them to stay technical and giving them advice that will guide their careers and make it easier for them to "move-up the technical ranks". One of my mottoes is always "Reaching Back, to Pull Forward".
