Eric's Story

Life Spent almost two years in Los Angeles, CA right out of college. Loved it, but really missed the east coast. Lived la vida loca in the sunny vactionland of Florida for 15 years. Too many pale tourists, retirees, hurricanes, gators, and mosquito's, but the caribbean lifestyle made it all worth it. I've been in Florida over ten years now, and I doubt I'll ever live in snowy areas again. I'm making it my life goal to see all of the Caribbean islands and their coral reefs. Moved out of Florida and to South Carolina in 2012, and been there ever since. The move was a blessing in disguise because I love it here. I've been married since 2005 and have 2 sons, ages 11 and soon-to-be 14. They definitely keep me busy. Life is good. School daze memories...... * Never forget being sick and puking on the floor by my desk during first period one year while at Henrico High. Anyone who was there will probably remember vividly. It was like a scene from the Excorcist, except for my puke wasn't quite as green. It was still industrial strength though. Hey, I always said, if you're going to do something, do it all the way or not at all. * Mr. Reynolds in Brookland Middle always smelled of "Sea Breeze" skin cleaner/astringent. He used it like after shave. I still cringe when I smell it. * Now that I think of it, there were several students at all of my schools that could've practiced better personal hygiene. Were you a smelly student? * Due to the fact that it was used so widespread and in massive amounts during high school (maybe to cover up the bad hygiene?)......I cannot stand the smell of Polo cologne anymore. * Don't step on my Nike's dammit!!! * The fact that I didn't do so well in my driver's ed class while at Henrico shows. I'm a [not so] Sharper driver. Do not ride with me. Lead foot and agressive is an understatement. I drive like a NASCAR fireballer, and rubbing is racing. I eventually learned the right way - ...Expand for more
at the LA Freeway school of driving. >> UPDATE - this has not changed. I still drive way too fast. But I am better at sniffing out radar setups. Not much better. * The 80's ROCKED!!! If I have one regret in life that I could go back in time to fix, it would be to keep in touch more with others who helped write the chapters of my life. That's my only regret so far, and it's a big one. College One HUGE party at VCU/ODU the whole time while I was there, and that's all I've got to say about that. Made some lifelong friends while at ODU, as well as got to know the Norfolk police department pretty well. Lost alot of hair while studying engineering (well, some hair lost, most still hanging on). Oh yeah, and I did manage to get an engineering degree with honors from ODU, and a master's with honors from "The U" of Miami. Career I'm no longer a rocket scientist. I used to work at Kennedy Space Center, on the Space Shuttle Main Engine program, as an engineer on the launch support and recovery team. Now I am a project manager at Siemens Energy, Inc., in Charlotte, working on power plants across the globe. It is definitely a busy job, you have to be a multi-tasking ninja......which I am. HA! Since I am in management, I was told I can think like an engineer anymore. Yeah, right. OK, sure. Once an engineer, always an engineer. Hobbies, interests: - Many. But the big thing is volunteering what little spare time I have to mentoring at-risk kids. It is HUGE to see their turnaround when they have someone on their side, advocating for them, spending time with them letting them know they matter, and being there to help them with whatever - school, social pressures, etc. I also coach whenever I can, whether teams my boys are on or not. Kids are the future of our world, and anytime I can take to impact them in a positive way, I will take it. As you all can tell, I am still very chatty!!! HAAAA!! Hope you all are well.
