Eric's Story

Short version: Last 31 years as a Registered Respiratory Therapis/Neonatal-Pediatric Pulmonary Specialist at University of TN Hospital. Responsible for anything related to airway/breathing on any patient from 23 weeks gestation on up to full term. Fly with Lifestar and various fixed wing jets services to pick up severely sick infants and transport them back to our facility for extended care. That is my work life. Home life: Married 27 1/2 years ago. Have two daughters. Oldest is 26 and due to deliver our first granddaughter in three weeks (around Nov. 3rd). Youngest daughter is 22 and is a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery at UT Hospital which is a little strange since I attend all high risk deliveries and there is my daughter as the nurse in the OR/delivery room. Really weird situation. My wife has been chronically ill for about 18 years with several maladies and we just try to keep her comfortable. ersonal about myself. I had a sex change about 3 years ago. JUST KIDDING! Actually, anyone who remembers me as sort of quiet and kind of off to the sidelines would not know me that way now. Funny how time changes everything. I am known as the outgoing prankster in my work setting. I realize that does not seem to go with my job description but I believe it is a naturally occurring consequence of the death and dying associated with my job. I failed to mention I have spent numerous hours working traumas in the Emergency Room at our Level 1 Regional Referral Trauma ER (I only mention the level because we get the worst of the worst)and it is a way to cope and stay sane in what is often insane situations. Anyone feel free to write. It is really odd but i have probably not run into over 6 or 8 people from school in all these years. A couple of updates. I retired from UT Hospital in 2013 and have been helping out at East Tennessee Children’s Hospital since then. Eric
