Eric Wayne Perkins:  

I am a grand-nephew of A. E. Perkins, for whom the first 'colored' public school in Biloxi was named. I'm also our family's unofficial historian and have been trying to track A.E.Perkins' activities while he was in the Biloxi area. What we do know is that he did marry and had at least one son. His wife, Julia Ligon Hutchins, was the paternal great-granddaughter of Col. Anthony Hutchins whose family were of the first to settle in Mississippi. Col. Hutchins governed the Mississippi Territory at some point. A.E and Julia had at least one son, Robert. A.E. Perkins attended what later became known as Alcorn State Univ., where he met his future wife/Julia. He was honored the Laws Doctoral degree at Wilberforce Univ. in Xenia, Ohio; at the time, one of the most distinguished Black academic institutions in the country.
