Erik's Story
Life
I spent some time down in Huntington Beach after high school, then it was off to the Navy for nearly 7 years. I was fortunate enough to have traveled to Japan, Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Philippines, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia while in the service. I was also active in the Persian Gulf War, however, my tour ended after breaking my leg in several places and forced out of the Navy with a permanent injury. I went back to school, graduated from UC Berkeley's Haas School of Business (GO BEARS!). Worked as a computer systems consultant for Deloitte in SF and now oversee IT compliance at McKesson. I have a couple awesome kids, son Cole (1/02), and daughter Rebecca (2/04). Drop a line at erik_johnson at alumni.haas.org

Military
What a wild ride it was....After much prodding by my father, I enlisted in the Navy in May 1988. Survived bootcamp, then spent the next year training to be an Electronics Technician (ET). I qualified for Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) and began training, which was short lived b/c the navy needed more ET's than EOD's. I was ordered to a ship in Alameda, CA and survived 2.5 years, 2 western pacific cruises, and the Persion Gulf War. I broke my leg in multiple places in July 1992, and was transferred to the Oakland Naval Hospital for rehab. Spent another 2.5 years at the hospital managing the traffic division of the military police. Rehab went well, but not as good as expected. Bad news - permanent disability, good news - paid for college and lifelong payments.
