Erik L.'s Story

Life May 2007 Update: Divorced for 5 or so years after 15 year marriage to Susan Bender (class of 1983). Her name was legally changed many years ago to Sophie Sterling, so anyone interested may have difficulty finding her. One daughter grown, the other 16 1/2 y.o. and nearly there. Moved back to Annapolis, which because of the history, charm, and quaint beauty of the historic district remains my favorite city in the world. My parents retired to Hawaii 14 years ago, so I travel there often. Many towns in Hawaii give the beauty of Annapolis a run for its money. Won't be attending the 25th reunion, but hope everyone has a good time. Be happy and be well, Erik Hey Everyone! After living in Annapolis, Norfolk, VA, and White Marsh (MD), I've settled in Severna Park -- enemy territory -- with my two daughters. As Marsha Howes pointed out to me recently, we live about a quarter mile from each other, but have never seen the other since high school. Of course, Pat Sajak lives in my same neighborhood (really), but HE never has me over to his 3.2 million dollar house for dinner either. Guess I'll have to speak to Vanna about that. After 12 years of elem, jun high, and high school, I spent the better part of the NEXT 12 years in school as well: 4 years of college, a year of graduate school, 4 years of medical school, and 3 years of medical residency. After this stint of being a professional student, I have spent the last 8 years in private practice in Internal Medicine (in Glen Burnie, the garden spot of the universe). Apocryphal Healer My skill as a healer is legendary (hence the name, "Apocryphal"), even among other health care practitioners. Obviously, this is very important to me; medicine has been more of a calling than a profession. However, this can have a down side, as the more energy I focus on practicing my art, the less I have when I return home. I am under no illusion that my ability to heal the sick is due to any power or prestige on my part, but rather to the gentle, sweet, and subtle touch of spiritual forces far beyond my capacity or understanding. Yes, you guessed it, I am indeed talking about malpractice attorneys -- who else? At least that's what they keep telling me. (You will note that I do NOT believe in sarcasm as a literary device; it is far beneath me.) My past relationship partners have described me as handsome, loving, gentle and kind, generous, interested in and respectful of their wants and needs, fun and wonderful with children, reasonably talented in the bedroom, enormously funny, ...Expand for more
and compassionate. Of course each of those women is now doing 5 to 10 years in a minimum security prison for fraud and misrepresentation. I married Susan Bender from Annapolis Senior Class of 1983 (by the way, she legally changed her name to Sophie L. Sterling-Russell -- long story), and together we raised two daughters: Katey (goes by Raven -- another long story) who is 18 years old, and Rebecca (who has NO plans to change HER name, so far as I know!), who is 12 y.o. My daughters are the light of my life, and my raison d'etre. Both are honor students. Katey more-or-less skipped high school (yet another long story), and currently is finishing her second year at AACC with a 4.0 gpa. She wants to be a massage therapist, among other things. Rebecca's in 5th grade, and is just embarking on a carreer in acting. Neither of my daughters wants to be a doctor, thank goodness (the profession is no longer what it once was). Susan/Sophie and I separated in 8/01, and we are planning to complete a divorce within the next year. We remain good friends (we just can't live together -- oh well). Workplace Apocryphal Healer 38 year old physician (internal medicine), with a very wry sense of humor. People describe me as warm, witty, good-natured and relaxed, a little chaotic, fair to good-looking (depending on who you ask), friendly, very bright and well-read, and extremely nice. Of course, you can't believe what people say. My skill as a healer is legendary (hence the name, "Apocryphal"), even among other health care practitioners.
