Erin's Story
Well now, my most favorite memories growing up come from my time as a kid in Quantico. We really had a sheltered existence which allowed us the freedom to explore and walk around the base. Funny, back then I thought the base was HUGE. I went back recently to show my youngest and it felt so small. Not to mention they got rid of the duplex homes in my old neighborhood and replaced them with townhouses! Ok, Aquia Harbor wasn't so bad either!
After my parents divorced, we moved more often than when my dad was in the military! I ended up graduating a year early (Class of 1980 now) to get out on my own sooner. Made my fair share of mistakes that fortunately didn't kill me or anyone else! I married too young to Doug's best friend from EOD School, Tim, and had two awesome kids, Laila and Alex, which have since graduated from college. After that marriage failed (mostly my fault) I married on the rebound which was an even worse mistake. I had an "Oops, everything still works" baby, her name is Sasha. The second marriage was a total embarrassment for me because he was a major abuser and after having ...Expand for more
Sasha, I had to get the hell out of Dodge! I moved back "home" to Virginia and met up with the love of my life, the man I should have married in the first place, John. We met back when I was a teen and I assumed all guys were like him...duh. Any way, he had four kids from his previous marriage and so we are the "Brady Bunch" Plus One.
Meanwhile, I never finished college but I do very well for myself. I had a consulting firm while in California that I sold before moving. I was also involved in a Start-up.com company that was very exhilarating. Needless to say, after 9/11, that bubble burst and we sold the program to ADP. My husband and I have our own consulting firm in Virginia and have a blast keeping up with all the kids and their events. We also find time to be the only husband and wife team of Official Little League Umpires in the state. I knew growing up with four brothers would prepare me for something!
I have bumped into a few other Quantico-ites and Stafford-ites from that era and we all agree it was fun growing up there. I hope to catch up with others over time. God bless you all.
