Erin's Story
Life
I live in Brooklyn, NY with my husband Mike and my 3 year old son, Mikey. I spend most of my free time chasing my son, but manage to squeeze in some cooking and entertaining. We relocated here from Orlando, FL almost 5 years ago to be closer to our families (we moved the weekend after the 20 year reunion and were sorry to miss it!).
Mike has a large Italian-American family located in Brooklyn and NJ, so celebrations are always in the works. I still come to West Haven about once a month to visit my mom and family.
Professional Background
In my current position, I am the Nurse Practitioner and Manager of Employee Health & Wellness for Guardian Life Insurance Company. The company is located in New York CityÂs Financial District, 1 block south of Wall Street.
I find the profession of occupational health an exciting challenge after working in primary care. When I was in school becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, I wanted to get out there and work in a community where I could really get to know my patients and follow up on them. I would never have guessed that after so many years of primary care experience, I would find the community care I was seeking with the employ...Expand for more
ee population of an insurance & financial services company.
The geography of my years since high school is complex. Let's just say I've been around! I graduated with my Associates in Nursing in 1990 from Quinnipiac College.
I moved to NYC for my first job in nursing, working with AIDS, leukemia and cancer patients for NYU Medical Center. In 1993-1994 while finishing my MSN, I worked in the oncology unit at Yale New Haven Hospital. I received my BSN in 1992 and MSN from Columbia University in 1994.
For my first Family Nurse Practitioner job, I moved to Wilson, NC with the NC Rural Health Service to help start a new community health center. It was a fantastic experience.
In 1997, my husband and I moved to Orlando, FL. In Orlando, I worked in primary care for a physicianÂs office and in a county clinic. Then I worked for an urgent care company with 13 centers around the Orlando area. (I did a lot of singing in Orlando with a great community theater group)
I moved back to NYC after I was laid off in 2002. Although I miss living in the South (ask me in February), I don't want to move again for a long time. Even the sight of a U-Haul and boxes makes me shudder!
