Erin's Story

Life After high school I went to IU in Bloomington. Graduated in 1999. While I was there I met a guy name Alex Garcia we started dating then he ran off and joined the US Marine Corps. We kept on seeing each other and got married when I was a Junior in 1998. I stayed in Indiana and had our daughter, Celestina, my senior year in 1998. Then I ran off to North Carolina and joined him until his enlistment was up. We came back to Indiana in 2000. He went to Bloomington IN to live with my brother Blaine and attend IU while I stayed with my parents and worked. We were flat broke and couldn't really afford a place of our own so decided to save money this way. Plus I was pregnant again and it just made sense. Anyway Roman, our son was born 2 months premature in August 2000. We stayed in North Vernon until 2002 with Alex coming home on Thursdays and going back on Sunday nights. I worked for Muscatatuck in the Psych Department, Quinco, and then Child Protective Services (which totally sucked). Finally we moved to the house we are in now about 15 mile west of Bloomington. I transferred to Child Protective Services over here and worked until 2004 when my husband Alex, who is in the Indiana National Guard, was deployed to Afghanistan for 18 months. While there he helped to open a new camp called Camp Phoenix and helped to train the soldiers in the Afghan National Army. Since then I have not returned to work full time. I worked for about a year at my son's pre-school just to be near him and have something to do and then for about 4 months as the Social Services ...Expand for more
Assistant at a nursing home. I really liked that job but the hours they needed me and the hours the kids needed me didn't work so I had to quit. Alex works as the Cooporate Compliance Officer at Employment Plus in Bloomington. He is still in the Indiana National Guard and there is a chance he could go to Iraq in the near future. The kids are 9 and 7 now. They go to a private school in Bloomington called Harmony School. Which is a really awesome school and part of the reason we still live here even though none of our family is near. That and we love that fact that Bloomington is so diverse and offers culture, great resteraunts, and access to concerts and festivals. Like the Lotus Festival, Taste of Bloomington, The Farmers Market, Wonderlab Children's Science and Exploration Museum , Upland Brewery, Oliver Winery, Fourth Street Festival, and much more! Another cool thing they have here is Rhinos Youth Center which is an all ages club for youth with local and national bands and other talent. It is run by the Harmony Education Center which also runs Harmony School. We are pretty happy here. I do tons of volunteer work and have lots of good friends. The kids are involved in sports. Celestina just finished up her first year in fast pitch softball and Roman is getting ready to start football. We head back to North Vernon about every other weekend to see my mom and dad Gail and Al Minnick who own the Medicap Pharmacy and to hang out with my little brother Blaine. I also have a MySpace page look me up under Erin Garcia or under myspace.com/agondosgottado.
