Ernest's Story
Life
I have resided in San Antonio, TX since graduation in 1963. I spent four years in the Air Force all here in SA. I got into the computer software area in 1963 and retired in January of 2001 as Chief, Software Development for the Air Force Institute for Environment, Safety and Occupational Health Risk Analysis at Brooks AFB, San Antonio, TX. The last 33.5 years of my career was as a civilian employee of the Air Force. I married a fellow civil servant in the fall of 1967. She is a native San Antonian so that's how I ended up staying here in SA. She too retired this year. We did not have any children so we're free to move around pretty much as we please. Looking forward to many retirement years. Activities I really like are running, traveling, and gambling. Carol, my wife and I never met a casino or horse track that we did not like. Thanks to the original inspiration of Mr. Dix Manning, I completed my 40th year of running in Jan 2001 and went over the 78000 mile mark in Feb.
Update as of August 2008. Over the past several years, I've reconnected with many of my friends and classmates from my early days in WV. We've celebrated the 40th anniversar...Expand for more
y of our graduation from Shady Spring High School in 1963. We've continued to meet each year for a mini-reunion in WV. Here on the home front, Carol and I continue to do well. Both of us are relatively heathy. We still enjoy traveling and just added cruising to our repetoire in 2007. Don't know why we waited so long. If you haven't been on a cruise, it's great. We're already planning our third one. I continue to dabble in computers by helping seniors that have problems and also help them purchase computers appropriate for their particuliar need. I don't charge for my services so business is brisk. I assist folks in buying and installing TVs (again for free). With LCD, plasma, DLP and the coming mandatory conversion to a digital signal, purchasing a TV is getting a little complex so I get to spend a lot of money on the latest technology without having to dip into my own pockets. I find that consumer electronic salesmen generally don't know their products so they tend to sell customers more capability than they'll need, use or ever understand. Looking forward to many more years here in Texas while visiting Wild, Wonderful West Virginia more often.
