Esther's Story
Life
I left Michigan in 1973, and lived there only six months since. I was at last living in the desert I love, with no snow to shovel, when life changed again - requiring an investment of months and months in eldercare, in the Twin Cities again. Benton Harbor and St. Joe could use an eldercare comedy club hour or two per week! I keep running into others also taking care of the details for their parents, to network, share tips, and laugh with. I look forward to returning to Tucson for the winter months, 2009.
Workplace
Have I been in the midst of setting the "change careers every ten years" pattern - seems like it? As a working mother I substituted in K-12 classrooms, managing 6th graders, volunteering, and then moving the family as a corporate spouse/military wife. Teaching, drafting, engineering technical assignments, led to years of federal project work in Arizona, and yet more in Virginia and Washington, DC. The job titles...Expand for more
shifted from the arts and clerical, to engineering, contract admin, project and property management. Through a decade with county government, in Oregon, my vacations were focused toward the next career transition - graduate and experiential work in dispute resolution, counseling, training & development, and neurobiofeedback. Everyone in grad school it seems had held their current jobs 3 years or less - the trend toward quick transitions and lattice career development was evolving. The OD & Training firm I founded has matured into a clinical practice. I facilitate the education of clients in the use of hypnosis, EFT, and Neuro-EEG techniques, for stress relief of innumerable issues - stopping smoking, pain management, trauma release, phobia relief, following through on fitness plans, moving through grief, stress-less birthing - succeeding at the incremental changes we each resolve to make through the course of our lives. I love my job!
