Esther's Story
LIFE HERSTORY:
Currently, I'm officially RETIRED! I have worked as a BSN RN since graduating from UW in 1977, after double-majoring in Nursing and Psychology, with a BS in Nursing, BA in Psychology, and a 'minor' in the HUSKY MARCHING BAND, where I was a section leader in my 4th yr.('75) and Secretary for the Band in my 5th at UW,('76).
POST GRADUATION:
I returned to Alaska as a Public Health Nurse in Palmer, then moved to Anchorage where I helped open the Providence Hospital's 'Peek-a-Boo ICU', then worked in Labor & Delivery & Nursery, Psych, and Post-surgery nursing. y husband, Randy, of 31 yrs. works as an operator at Tesoro Refinery in Nikiski, AK. We enjoy world-wide travel and have raised our 2 sons: Seth, who attended U/OR w/ B.A. degree in Philosophy & who lives in western Texas; and Paul, who is majoring in Electrical Engineering w/minor in Math at U of Alaska in Fairbanks (UAF).
Education/College: 'Professional student': 7 yrs. full-time college at Modesto Jr.,CA; Eastern Kentucky U, and UW, Seattle, WA. Started in Home Econ. Education then switched to Nursing at U of WA in Seattle.
I passed my RN boards after graduation in 1977 & have been a BSN RN ever since.
Professional: Nationally Certified School Nurse since 2/2001; School Nursing since 1989.
Secretary of AK School Nurses' Assn. 2004/05.
