Etta's Story
Life
Prior to moving back to Memphis TN, I lived in the northern panhandle of Idaho for 21 years. Loved it and enjoyed it very much. Moved back to Memphis area because my daughter Jody wanted to be around her grandparents and get to know some of the family here in the MidSouth area. As a single mom, it's been up and down, good and bad. Apart from that, I live with joy in my heart and keep my thoughts in an upward motion. I love life and enjoy living it.
Now, I see why life only gets better and more refined like the aging of fine wine...I married Dale Eakin (class of 1967 at McClellan) on May 22, 2004...thank goodness for Classmates.com and for the internet to put us together as friends are to be. We are having a blast and enjoying life as never before!!
I've taken an even bigger plunge by returning to college. Currently attending Christian Brothers University here in Memphis. Very busy with this and requires lots of my time; however, it will be worth it. Finding the need to get the "ole" brain in a different gear these days, too!
One of my greatest influences during my growing up in Central A...Expand for more
rkansas was to see my grandmother Mary Jane Talbert lend so much energy and fun to dull routines daily. We laughed and worked hard to get things accomplished. Getting all our work done also meant that on Saturday we got to go to town in Carthage and get a snow cone called a "flip" then because we could mix lots of flavors. Juicy Fruit gum was also a treat at my grandmother's house. A great memory and the place I get my own style using the name of Etta Jane Talbert-Eakin. I learned a lot about cooking from her, too.
College
College meant freedom and responsibility at the same time. It also meant Burger King at lunch time--quick and hurried--but good food with great friends. Right after I started college, my mother died; and I took the responsibility of my younger brother and sister. I also had a part-time job. I was busy with studying, housework, and working.
Workplace
Worked in Memphis TN right out of college. Moved to Idaho and worked for the State of Idaho, a lumber mill, accountant, and a credit union. Am now working in the administration department at a manufacturing firm in Memphis TN.
