Eugene's Story

Eugene is from Boise, Idaho. Eugene's schools include Clover Park High School, Frankfurt American High School, Seymour High School. Eugene works(ed) at Pathology Associates Medical Laboratory, Paml, Paclab. Music Eugene likes includes Enya, Vangelis, John Denver. Movies Eugene likes include Cars, Letters to Juliet, A Good Year. TV shows Eugene likes include GEICO Best of College Basketball, Bones, House. One of Eugene's favorite quotes is:"PEOPLE MAY NOT REMEMBER EXACTLY WHAT YOU DID, OR WHAT YOU SAID, BUT THEY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER HOW YOU MADE THEM FEEL. Moving The average brat attends 10 schools in 12 years - some move as many as 36 times. They have no "hometowns" to go back to and rarely know their extended families. When they turn 18 or graduate from college, their ID cards are taken away, so they can't go back to the military bases they grew up on. Even if they did, there's no one there who knows them anymore. One of the positive effects of this lifestyle is brats learn to get along with anybody, from anywhere. They can move and take risks. They're not afraid of change. At the same time, some brats become "change junkies" and can't settle down. Others have difficulties with intimacy, and lack a consistent sense of self.". More about Eugene:"I am a rather simple man with pretty basic needs. I have the love of a wonderful woman, two wonderful diverse adult children that are finding their way in life, and have been fortunate enough to cross paths with some wonderful people during my lifetime. I am a "military brat" being the ...Expand for more
son of a career military man. I have no real hometown and have had the opportunity to be exposed to a number of foreign lands and cultures during my formative years. I blame this for my love of travel and need for exposure to new cultures. Researchers are now finding that this particular lifestyle leads to some interesting personality traits in the adult "brats". I think this somewhat unique upbringing has been a challenge for my wife and I over the years. She was lived in the same city for the majority of her life. That is a very foreign concept to those of us fortunate enough to have lived the life of a nomad as youngsters. She attended three schools during her 12 year stint in the public school system, I attended 12. I mastered the art of currency conversion at the ripe old age of six. Pfenning and deutsche marks to dollars. As a youngster we never left home without a key to the front door and our military identification, be it dog tags or ID card. It was our key to safe transport stateside should the cold war escalate to a flood of soviet military hardware and manpower through the Fulda gap, a little over a hundred miles from our front door. They were our "golden ticket" that allowed us access on to the aircraft that would fly us stateside and safety should the unthinkable happen. As an adult I receive a great deal of joy watching those with which I have shared my knowledge and skills become successful. Bringing new leaders up through the ranks is a never ending process and has proven to be extremely satisfying.".
