Eugene's Story
On Monday after graduation, I left for basic training with the Air Force. Then it was tech school in Mississippi from July 65 to March 66. Came home for 30 days and then reported to my first duty station at Key West NAS. Joined the Air Force and the fist place they send me is a Navy Base!!
Spent June of 68-May 69 at a remote radar site in Alaska. I got out of the Air Force, worked at Electronic Specialties for a while, then the Post Office for a couple of years.
I joined the Oregon Air National Guard in 72. I also went to work for them full time. I retired from the OreANG in 88.
Next job was with NOAA in Seattle. Set up a Quality Assurance program for the Electronic Engineering Division and traveled around to the various NOAA installations doing QA work on their research ships. Occasionally I also met ships in such "nice" places as Guatema...Expand for more
la, Mexico, and Ecuador.
Retired in 05 with 40 years federal service. We had a house built in Sisters and moved here in April 05.
I'm a volunteer at the library, on the Friends of the library board, serve as the Post Commander of the American Legion, and volunteer at the Sisters Veterans Support Group.
We have one son who lives in Las Vegas and has a daughter. Our daughter lives in England, has a son, and her daughter lives in Mesa. Her husband is a cruise ship Captain for Holland/Princess Lines. So she gets to do a lot of sailing with him.
My wife Linda (Young), a Gresham High graduate and I have been married since June 66. We are both now enjoying this beautiful area we now call home.
I have been very active with the American Legion. Currently I am the state Vice Commander. So this keeps me very busy traveling around the state and nation.
