Eugene's Story

Life I would like to preface this bios page by adding that I am a musician, singer and writer. As such most of us are often very open people with our lives, through our creative works. It is my belief that we as artists find psychological and spiritual therapy in the creative process. Since writing is one of the creative skills I have been blessed with, it is my intent in this bios to give some insight into my life regarding past events, and how those subsequent events shaped me as an individual. It is also my hope that those of you, whom view this page, will enjoy me sharing this insight into my life. I am originally from Memphis, Tennessee. I grew up there for 31 years of my life. The South was very instrumental in shaping my ideological and spiritual nature. The racism that was and is in part still rampant in the South, devastated minority communities and white communities as well albeit perhaps unknowingly. It still does to this day. Racism has profound effects on the entire socio-political, psychological and spiritual makeup of society. Various self-esteem issues, as well as, spiritual and social justice issues, arise from this whole ideology of race and its institutionalized system of separation based upon a non-scientific view of humanity. I see no need to list the various negative ramifications of that institution of race, for they are too abundant to see. What should be important is that, we live on the same planet and share some of the same dreams, hopes, pain and tears. This Earth is a learning experience as I have most assuredly discovered, and as such, you can say it is a classroom. Therefore we need to love and respect one another, for we are all truly classmates in life. Writer: Eugene Purnell III Composed: 11/22/07 College Just a little about me: I will finally attain my International Affairs undergraduate in spring of 2009 in time for graduation. Sheesh. I will then complete my Economics degree and in the fall quarter of 2009 I will ente...Expand for more
r into the Masters of Social Work program at my university. Originally it was my intention to continue in my undergraduate studies with a focus on business; however, I decided that trying to help people as a whole instead of helping myself to their pocket without regard to their well being, {as so many business people do}, is not spiritually healthy for me. Therefore it is my contention that social work is better suited for my intentions. While it will not bring me financial riches, it will bring me emotional and spiritual wealth. Those gifts to me are far more valuable than financial and physical capital. As for my creative side, since one of my given talents is writing, I plan to finally venture out professionally and possibly write a screen play or two over the next couple of years. As for my Music, I have neither given up nor tried to have any of my works published. God willing, things will work themselves out. My hobbies are: A. Anime B. Astronomy C. Aviation D. Chess E. Computer Technology F. Digital Imaging G. Fencing H. Foreign Films I. Foreign Languages J. Horseback Riding K. Martial Arts L. Motorcycles M. Photography N. Video Games There are many other hobbies and intrests I did not include. I am extremely compassionate and passionate. I am considered articulate and intelligent. I am very resourceful and enjoy learning new things. I like almost every genre of music except: Classical, Gangster Rap, Opera, Polka, and Zydeco. Lastly I have a pet cat Note: I love learning about different cultures and languages! If you speak another language, please send me an email sometime and let me know how to say general greetings in your native or second language, etc. German is my language minor. I also speak some, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Teresa Lynn Smith because frankly, she impacted my whole life. I hope and pray to hear from you again one day Teresa wherever you are.
