Eva's Story

Going to Herman Elementary in the Projects I had a great life there. The people I played with was the Barnard Family. To this day, Juanita is still my best friend. The family's that I remember are, The McCliments, and the Tidwells. There was a Kevin Bardwell (where are you!) who used to make me laugh, as gross as he was! He would pretend to spit in his hand, pull out a booger, pat his butt, and dig out ear wax, roll it into a ball, throw it up in the air, and swallow it!! He was gross! Loved it! I miss the jewish boy in the neighborhood, Michael Greenburg! Janice, I know where you are, but we're not speaking! LOL! She was the oldest of the bunch (ha) and got us to start smoking on the railroad tracks. We'd bike down there and dig them out of our hiding spots! And good ole Patty Neville...I saved the best for last. The Coville family. Their mom Grace, was my mom's (Grace) best friend. They taught me all the Motown moves! In their living room we'd do the monkey, the frugh, the twist! We were the black and white families who would kiss and hug before it became acceptable.... I don't remember much about Ruddiman Jr. High. Just that my friend Juanita beat up Nancy Horvath because she never d...Expand for more
elivered my note to me that Juanita wrote! Poor Nancy. I sure did feel bad about that...but you didn't go against Juanita! She was the rebel! And stayed that way! High School was great until we had to move. The black panthers moved into the projects and there was to much gun play at that time. In 12th grade we moved out, mom and I, and into Dearborn Heights. I actually hated going to an all white school (Annapolis). I knew no one, but made one friend, Becky Marchyok. Oh, we don't speak either. But we were friends for many years after High School. I think I'm the oddball when I say, "I would like to go back and change a few things." And a few I wouldn't. I've had the good fortune to be able to stay at home and raise my two kids. I did work part-time now and then to help, and to just get out of the house. That was the best time of my life, raising the kids! Plus, I was younger then too! I was a den mother for both boy and girl scouts, and never missed a field trip, or Xmas Program. I love all kinds of animals, and would be the first to raise my hand at a field trip to hold the snake! In New Mexico I got up extra early to look for those gheckos! I love to observe, and I do smell the roses!
