Evon Margaret's Story

It is now June, 201, ad Peg Beeter Trinchitella1 who lives in Arizona emailed me. Unfortunately she has developed melanoma on her arm. She says she is now in God's hand. I you want to contact me, I can give you her email address. Life In 1930 I was born and lived in St. Mel Parish until the day I married Bob Clawson. The West Side of Chicago was to me then a "little bit of heaven". St. Mel Grammar School and Prov provided us with an excellent education. I worked in the dime store on Madison, went to the movies at the Marbro and Paradise and all the other many movie theaters around. Used the library on Crawford Avenue a lot. Went ice skating at Garfield Park. Drank Green River at the drugstores. Gathered at corners to talk with friends. Curfew was at 10:00 pm, and before that curfew was when "the street lights went on". After graduating from Prov, I worked for an insurance broker. There were nine young women and our supervisor, Erma, who was like a mother. We enjoyed dinner together downtown, went to movies and plays and also ice skated and bowled together. The summer I married Bob, four of my co-workers married also. We all also became pregnant that summer. The years I worked there were happy. In four years I was pregnant four times, but we only had three children. Brian, Lynn and Tom are all in their forties now. Do you believe??? After renting for some years, we bought a house in Westchester and lived there 25 years. Westchester to m...Expand for more
e was another "little bit of heaven". Our children grew up and married while we lived there. Bob and I now have four grandsons and one GRAND DAUGHTER. There names are David, Matthew, Michael, Lauren Lynn and Marcus. Life begins with grandchildren, and we have had many, many sleepovers, Holiday dinners, birthday parties, graduation parties at our home. We still do. Bob and I consider ourselves so very fortunate to have two wonderful daughters-in-law and a ideal son-in-law. God has been good to us. Bob and I square danced for 25 years or more. Our friends were many and close. We not only danced together, but we ate, traveled and partied with our friends. Many close friends are gone now, and one friend has terminal cancer. His wife, my best friend, died at 53, and we are now losing him. As for the present, after 10 years as a secretary at the Southwest Suburban Center on Aging in La Grange, I am retired. I am looking for something to do now to keep me out of Oak Brook and Yorktown. Our 50th Prov reunion was the very best. Also, the trip down to Providence High School the day before is hard to describe. Driving down Madison Street, being in Providence High School and driving back down Washington was emotional for me. It was "going home". Looking forward to seeing you at Mango's late October. Cann't wait. NOTE: I am a 25 year survivor of cancer. In 1979, my right breast was removed, and all in all I had 5 opertions in 9 months. I MADE IT.
