Felix's Story

Life I was born on January 11, 1962 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I've lived in places such as Harvey's Lake & Kingston, PA., then finally settled in Waymart, PA in 1973. I graduated from Penn State University in 1981 with an Associate's Degree in Broadcasting, then joined the Army in 1985 as a Public Affairs Specialist/Broadcast Journalist. I've lived all over the world in such places as Germany, Italy, and Panama and survived two combat zones...Operation Just Cause in 1989 and Operation Enduring Freedom 2003. I have a wife, Lorri who is from Toledo, OH. We married in 1988. We have two sons, Jonathan, 18 and Christian, 13. I became a Christian in 1991. I retired from the Army in December 2005 after nearly 21 years of service to the nation. I'm currently living near Tokyo, Japan where I work as the Lead Audiovisual Production Specialist for the 374th Mission Support Group's Marketing Office. As of this writing (August 2007), we've been here a year. It's been great. We recently returned to the states to visit our family members, and Northeastern PA is still the same depressing, ass-backwards place it's always been. No redeeming qualities whatsoever. Going home? Never! I've been all over the world and have seen what it has to offer. PA just doesn't cut it. I'll never go back. College I went to Penn State University in the fall of 1979 and majored in Mass Communications-Broadcasting. I did fairly well at it. I graduated in 1981, but it was hard to find work in PA at the time, so I went to work for my dad doing insulation contracting (which he STILL does). I found part-time radio station work as a news director, but it didn't last due to the station's bad management and poor economy. I subsequently joined the Army in 1985 and have been doing broadcasting/Public Affairs work for the Army since then. It...Expand for more
's taken me all over the world. I don't regret it at all. When I retired from the Army, I went back to school in an effort to earn my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Electronic Communications. In January 2006, I started back to school for the first time in 25 years thanks to the Montgomery GI Bill. I took two semesters of classes at The University of Texas at El Paso, but God apparently had other plans for us. In August of 2006, my wife, Lorri was offered a teaching position with the Department of Defense Dependent School System (DoDDS), so we packed up our things and moved to Yokota Air Base just outside of Tokyo. I am still pursuing my Bachelor's Degree through The University of Maryland here at Yokota. Hopefully I will have it done soon, but now that I'm working, it's a little more difficult to do. Workplace I'm now retired from active duty after serving almost 21 years on active duty. My final duty station was American Forces Network-Korea in Seoul and Camp Casey. I was officially retired on December 1st 2005. Shortly after I retired from active duty, I began attending classes at the University of Texas-El Paso majoring in Electronic Communications. While attending classes, I worked at KTEP-FM (UTEP's own radio station) as a radio producer and host. I'm currently working for the 374th Mission Support Group's Marketing Office on Yokota Air Base as the Lead Audiovisual Production Specialist. My job involves producing radio and television spot announcements that have anything to do with the Morale, Welfare and Recreation activities on the base. I also shoot, write, voice, and edit video programs on all those same activities so they can run on our "Services" channel on Yokota Air Base. This keeps our audience informed as to the various activities available to them so they have something to do in their off-duty hours.
