Fern's Story
After graduating from high school in 1972, at the age of 17, I took a job babysitting for the summer. I got a job as a waitress soon after that, and worked at the Huba Huba Cafe in Toppenish. I was still pretty shy, but having a job as a waitress, I was able to meet a lot of new people which I enjoyed. I worked at the Huba Huba for a couple of years, and moved I with a roommate, then, too. What an experience.

e Squeeze Inn Cafe, in Zillah, which I worked at for 13 years. In 1983, Madge Rowland retired from her job as librarian of the Zillah Library. I applied, and got the job, which I worked at for 30 years. I was able to watch my patrons grow up, and have children of their own, all in the town I grew up in. I retired in 2013, after 30 years. I am now enjoying, my retirement, and living on my On my own, after 20 of marriage. (My job lasted longer than my marriage). I'm also enjoying my 2 year old grandson, which is really fun..
