Flora's Story
Life
Hi, I graduated from Murphy in 1966 and then went to the University of Alabama. I have pretty much been a professional student ever since, taking work breaks every once in awhile. I am living in Des Plaines, IL now, a northwest suburb of Chicago. I was married for about five years but have no children and am now divorced.
I have four grown nephews and two of the boys have children. So, I have 3 great nieces as well.
I attend Oakton Community College on a part time basis. This summer, I am revamping my Spanish and typing skills. In the fall, I am going to take medical terminology. I have had a couple of jobs over the internet, and have my eye on medical transcription or billing as a possible late career since I don't work that much and I don't have any retirement savings yet.
I like to relax by playing on the computer or going for a ride on my bike or visiting the forrest preserve nearby and hanging out with the deer and rabbit tracks by the Des...Expand for more
Plaines River.
I remember being a cadet with Ms. McNally at Murphy and making the girls in her PE class do jumping jacks. They hated me, I think. I remember being in Ms. Green's homeroom at Murphy, and her pretending like I had got a demerit on April Fool's Day when I didn't. I was so mad at her for doing that. My heart was really thumping.
At Barton AcademyI got into a fight with Cindy Jarvis, and got sent to the office. Ms. Hanson, the music teacher, came in, and almost got me suspended because I had laughed one day when she had told the class that she was not on a social visit with Mr. Blackmon, the shop teacher. (I had thought that was pretty funny, I mean, who would have a social visit with Ms. Hanson?) Oh well. Later, I saw Cindy Jarvis one summer at Dauphin Island and she didn't seem like she was that mad at me. Umfortunately, she passed away not too long ago apparently of heart disease. I don't know what happened to Ms. Hanson or Mr. Blackmon.
