Frances's Story

Don't have much of a story to tell. I am happily retired and living in Tucson. Several years ago I took my "trip of a lifetime". Two places outside the U.S. I always wanted to go -- Egypt and Israel. This was in 2005. I spent 10 days in each country. The Egypt portion included a five-day cruise down the Nile river. My "cabin" on the ship was not at all like we see on a Caribbean cruise. It was a huge room with two queen sized beds and full bathroom. Just like a first-class hotel. AND A BALCONY. Of course, this was long before the country of Egypt fell into disarray. It was safe to walk anyplace and the Egyptian people were very hospitable. I stayed at the hotel were Omar Sharif had a suite. (Didn't get to see him though, He probably had a private elevator!) The Israel portion was inspirational. It wasn't a "religious pilgrimage" for me. But I admit I was touche...Expand for more
d to be able to walk through Jerusalem -- maybe on streets where He walked. There were only four of us on the Israel tour. Our guide was an Israeli. I recall asking him if he was born in Israel. He said, "No, I was born in Mauthousan concentration camp. The Germans allowed some Israeli people to come and get babies and take them to Israel. When it was all over, I was able to find my mother." I have to say that is a real "conversation stopper". What can you say to that? As of now, I confine my travels to a cabin on the lake in Northern Wisconsin. Found a lovely resort that serves breakfast and dinner, and delivers to my cabin if I want to "eat in. Flying anywhere now is really unpleasant. they treat you like cattle. They no longer care about passenger comfort. They don't have to. They just make sure all the flights are filled to capacity. That's my story!! Frances
