Frank's Story

Life Hi all, I don'’t know that this is all that interesting, but here'’s a short review of what I'’ve done since high school: I enlisted in the Navy right after graduation and served a little more than 3 years as an aircraft electrician. Just before I got out I married my high school sweet heart, Lois, and we'’re our 55th anniversary in 2016, more on that below. After I got out of the Navy, I worked for a short time in the civilian world as a quality control inspector but after about 6 months I went to work, full time, for the New Jersey National Guard on a Nike missile site. When the Nike sites closed in the early 70'’s I went back to being an aircraft electrician for the Guard. Since most people don'’t understand about '“full-time'” National Guardsmen, a brief explanation: Some one needs to maintain the equipment that the Guard uses for their weekend monthly and annual training assemblies. As a full-timer you'’re a federal employee but you also need to be a member of the National Guard and train the same as any other Guard members. In my case, working on the Nike missile site meant we were part of the USA’ air defense system along with the active Army. When I returned to aviation maintenance it was more like most Guard full-timers—keeping up aircraft that are used for training other Guard members. I eventually ended up as the shop foreman for a Guard aircraft maintenance shop located at Picatinny Arsenal. I retired from there in late 1992. I retired from both my full-time federal job and the National Guard. Toward the end of my Guard career I had g...Expand for more
otten interested in computers (they'’re great for aircraft record keeping) and enjoyed working with them, both for work and for my own purposes. After taking a couple of years off I went back to work for a company called Paragon Computing Professionals. I was subcontracted to IBM Global Systems who in turn were contracted to do computer support for Lucent Technologies. So I did computer support for Lucent for 5 or so years. I had a great time doing that, —much different from my Guard job, —and I learned a lot as well as having a good time. Now I'’m retired for good —if you don'’t count the free computer support for friends and relations. I still spend a fair amount of time fooling with computers. I also work around the house and spend time reading. Lois and I have two Children, —Frank & Lee Ann and two grandsons,—Frank (born in 2009) and Tom (born in 1989). My son Frank is a heating and air conditioning specialist and Lee Ann is a retired police captain. Since I originally wrote this a number of things have happened in my life. I now have 3 great grand children--Kyra, Frank and Decaln; ages 8, 7 and 1 and half as I write this in 2017. Unfortunately Lois passed away in away in May of this year (2017). Just a little more than a month before what would have been our 56th wedding anniversary. Since I met her when she was 15 and I was a few weeks from my 17th birthday, we were together almost 60 years. It helps a little bit if I remind myself that we had a very good life together and had a lot more years together than many other people get to have. Frank S.
