Frank's Story

Where does the time go? It has been 44 years since I graduated from Greenway. It is a day before Thanksgiving, 2021. Since high school . I went to Glendale Community College, graduated from North American College in Computer Accounting which is a business school. I worked for the City of Phoenix for 10 years at Sky Harbor Airport where the planes are on the ramp. That place is noisy, lol. I worked for Valley National Bank in a lockbox in the mailroom. Worked for the City of Yuma as a mail clerk. High school was a difficult time for me. I can talk about it now. The years have made me more open. I was painfully shy in high school. I have been single for most of my life. I was married when I was 38 years old. I was married for 20years. I been divorced for about 5 years now. Me and my wife fell out of love, it happens. I have a cat named Subway. He is 12 years old. He is such a sweet cat. He was in the shelter for 2 years before I had him. Nobody wanted him. He is a black cat. Black cats are considered bad luck. I have had more than my fair share of health issues over the years. Right now my health is very stable. Last year over the holidays. I was in the hospital for 2 months. This year I am looking forward to spending the holidays AT HOME! I was diagnosed with a rare type of cancer in August of 2003 Over 18 years ago. It has been in remission for many years. Traditional chemo and radiation do not work on my type of cancer. I am being treated with medication. I have a Gist which is a Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumor which is in my small intestine. In 2003, my tumor was 9 cm. The tumor is unresectable, can not be removed by surgery. It is much too dangerous, near the vena cava and the aeorta. Which are major veins in the body. The med is expensive which is covered by insurance. Other than my health issues, what I have gone through in my life. I am doing very much OK. I enjoy spending time with my cat, and my parents. My parents are still living. My mom is 86 and my dad is 88. I am 63 now. I enjoy visiting Arizona, traveling, spending time on the computer, and listening to the music I grew up with. Classic rock. I would enjoy corresponding with former classmates. Feel free to write me. Also I enjoy eating out. Everyone have a joyous and wonderful holiday season. Lately I have severe back pain. Most of my day is spent streteched out on my bed. Except for getting meals. Its been like this since July. Now Its the 3rd of December. I use Door Dash or Grub Hub for my food. They both deliver to your front door. I order groceries that way. I can not drive safely. I am in too much pain. I have a taxi come to take me to drs appointments. I can barely walk. I have a compression fracture In my spine. L1 Which is my lower back. The tailbone. When I was a teenager. I was in Boy Scouts bacpacking hiking in water. Well I fell on riverrock and hurt my tailbone Itrhurt for quite sometime afterwards.. I have been taking pain meds for 18 years now. I have reached the point, they don't help me anymore. I have been seeing a pain doctor. I ...Expand for more
have been getting nowhere. I am getting new health insurance on January 1st. Then i am going to see a spine surgeon. There is a procedure that puts a balloon where the fracture is. This oppens it up. So that the doctor can put bone cement where the fracture is. I cant wait to have my life back. Sometimes with my health issues and my back, ITS TOO MUCH! There is a. bright light at the end of the tunnel. Well Its March 4th now in the new year 2022. I had a couple of appointments with a spine surgeon and had a MRI of my back. I am not a candidate to have surgery. I was disappointed. I was referred to a pain doctor. I ALREADY SEE ONE. I AM STILL BEDRIDDEN, SINCE JULY OF LAST YEAR!! NOTHING YET IS DIFFERENT. I FEEL THE SAME IN CONSTANT PAIN. I CAN BARELY WALK. I WANT MY LIFE BACK AGAIN!! BE ABLE. TO DO THE THINGS I USED TO DO!! TAKE WALKS, DRIVE. AND RUN ERRANDS. GO TO THE GROCERY STORE. I saw the new pain doctor. A spinal cord stimulator was mentioned. I have another appt later this month. WE SHALL SEE?? THE WAIT IS TOO MUCH!! Email me frankschranz58 at gmail com It's Dec 16. 2022. Been in the hospital 9 days. A new GIST cancerous tumor grew in my pancreas,. This is causing me to bleed internally. I have received 3 units of blood since my last hospital stay a few weeks ago. I was told that the Bleeding would get worsa. I need to have surgery to take out my tumor. I can't get cardiac clearance because of heart problems. I need a surgeon that will do my surgery despite my risks. I'm caught in a pickle. I am being treated for pneumonia which Is going well. Still have chronic pain. Been switched to Sutent which costs 10,000 to 14,000 dollars a month. Very expensive. I'm waiting for an EGD PROCEDURE. It's November 3rd of 2023 now. I've been in the hospital from December to 2 months ago, 1 or 2 times per month to 2 months ago for one thing or another. This is the longest time I've been out of the hospital. My father passed away on November 14th of 2022. Me, my brother and sister have had to make adjustments as a family with my mom. My mom is 88. My dad was 89 when he passed. My pain is better controlled now than before. I'm on Percocet and Morphine. I'm still divorced. It's been almost 7 years now since the divorce. I mostly stay at home. Except to go to appointments or eat out, The only thing socially I do is the GiST support group virtual meetings which are the 1st and the 3rd Tuesday of every month. The last cat scans I had on September 29th showed my tumor shrank a little bit. My Cancer doctor lowered my dosage of the Sutent from 50 mg to 37.5 mg. I'll be taking the med every day, not having a 2 week break. My doctor said this way is better, My doctor is a GIST Specialist. There is only 3 of them in Arizona, I used to see him but switched since I was in remission and because of the distance. Well I'm not in remission anymore. So I went back to seeing him even though it's over 25 miles from me His office is near 92nd St and Shea Blvd, I'm looking forward to the holidays coming up even though we don't do anything special.
