Franklin's Story
Attended Bitburg HS in 1965 to 1967. Previously attended Spangdahlem Middle School for my 8th grade class in 1964 to summer of 1965. Older brother Bob and sister Margaret also attended Bitburg HS.
After Bitburg, my dad was transferred to McConnell AFB outside of Wichita, KS, where I finished my junior and senior years of high school and I graduated in 1969.
The summer between high school and starting college, I ran into Jonathan Pugh and his family. Jonathan was the only person from my Spangdahlem and Bitburg H.S. days that I ran into while living on McConnell AFB in Kansas. For a high school graduation gift, my parents give me a trip to Las Vegas, NV, to visit my best friend from my high school days at Bitburg H.S., Edgar Cantillo. Edgar's dad was stationed at Nellis AFB. On the way to see Edgar, I ran into Pat Nowicki and her family at the airport layover for my flight. Those were the only 3 people I bumped into from my High School days at Bitburg after I moved back to the states.
Probably 25 years after leaving Bitburg H.S., I did look up a great friend, Ken White, and called him on the telephone in Las Cruces, NM. I knew Ken had grown up there and had family there, but it was totally by chance I still found him living there. I did that on a lark since we had been great friends at Spangdahlem Middle School and Bitburg. H.S. Ken and his family had moved back to Las Cruces while his dad, a pilot, volunteered to go to Viet Nam. Some of you probably remember, if a pilot thought he was going to Viet Nam, he might was well volunteer because it would look good on his record and he was going to go anyway back in those days. Ken and his family left Spangdahlem earlier then the normal 3 year rotation because of that and I lost a great friend. It was great talking to an old friend, but not a lot in common after those many years.

I lived in Germany, I lived in Binsfeld, Germany when I was in middle-school, (just outside the base) and on Spangdahlem AB. A fellow classmate at middle-school lived in Binsfeld also, Ernie Green, A link to my middle school picture can be found on my personal website. The website name knarfoh comes from knarf which FRANK spelled backwards and that was my nickname in middle-school and oh means OHIO, which is where I live now.
I attended out-of-state college at THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY in Columbus, Ohio from 1969 to 1973 where I graduated with a degree in Business.
Worked briefly for Nationwide Insurance Company (headquartered in Columbus, OH) and later for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (usually referred to as DMV in other states, but in Ohio known as the BMV). Eventually, I became the head of the Ohio BMV where I served as the Registrar of Motor Vehicles for 10 years. Anyone from Ohio who had a driver license from Ohio (and it was issued before March 2007) will see my name, just below the Governor's, on their drivers license.
I am now retired from state government and have been since I turned 56 years old last year.
Also worked during a 6 year period for the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association (trade association for new car dealers) for 6 years having left the BMV and then returned under a new Governor.
My position in state government was a political appointment and I served at the pleasure of the Governor for all of my state service.
Unmarried, but with 8 brothers and sisters, I have a zillion nieces and nephews and now they have kids also.
Continue to live in the Columbus, OH area outside a small village called Canal Winchester (a village is less then 5,000 people).
