Fred's Story

Life Currently working at Kaiser Permanente in California, doing national healthcare technology planning & organizational change mgt. Ongoing interests in psychology (have a Ph.D.), world spiritual traditions & interfaith collaboration, Green Party politics, and Argentine tango. Lots of singing over the years (7 CDs with various ensembles) & touring (including stint with Chanticleer, professional vocal ensemble). Definitely interested in re-connecting with former classmates! School Spent most high school years in a military academy, so social life was nil until 11th grade, in Sao Paulo. Met Sue Allen at Graded & we stayed together for 6 years, but didn't get married. I was a kind of intellectual nerd back then (took index cards and my copy of Mill's Utilitarianism to the prom), but smoothed out over the years. At Chapel, I remember being in a shoving match with the most elderly nun who wouldn't let me into the library in my tennis shorts, without a coat. So I put on a coat and we pushed at each other with the swinging door. She was furious & sent me to the principal. The Junior class who had elected me as class president then tried to impeach me for complaining about rampant cheating. Fond memories of Mr. Colby and our great productions of My Fair Lady and A Man for All Seasons; of Patti Aguirre, with a charming sophistication beyond her years; of Silvia Beniamino, sweet and gentle in a classroom of sniping teenagers; of Janet Albright, running like a demonette on the track team, making the world safe for able-bodied women; of our Debate team trip to BA; of the couple of sisters who actually embodied and expressed love through their teaching and support of students. I remember the poor, sheepish doctor who came in...Expand for more
to do the obligatory sex ed class, and our peculiar prom, named the Blue Goose Goo Chew, in honor of the Dr. Seuss book. I recall a certain classmate flaunting his supposed, but probably feigned admiration for Hitler (an early shock jock tactic, I surmise). I recall our great tennis coach, Sr. Gil?, who could hold 10 tennis balls in the crook of his arm, play, and drop a ball one at a time for volley practice. A relatively sweet time, considering how teen years can be. Good people whom I expect have all turned out well over the years. College Wesleyan University, BA 1974, Middletown CT University Major in Integrative Science ( a self-designed program combining critical theory, religion, and history) Wright Institute, Ph.D. 1986, Berkeley CA Graduate School of Psychosocial Development and Education Dissertation: A Social Ecology Perspective on Professional Development in Philanthropy. Workplace Lived on a kibbutz in Israel, worked in a greenhouse, drove a school bus, helped DD adults in transition to independent living, ran library, taught classes at maximum security treatment ctr. for the criminally insane, did prison research on convicted sex offenders and with FBI on autoerotic death; did program evaluation on runaway youth; did construction work; consulted to a couple of family foundations; toured and recorded internationally with renaissance vocal ensemble; did regional planning of biomedical equipment, nonprofit HMO; regional planning for IT asset and service mgt. Currently (2009)am inter-regional program manager for clinical technology planning at Kaiser Permanente & active in international healthcare planning collaboratives to disseminate best practices & form interdisciplinary networks for telehealth services.
