Fred's Story
Life
Hello All!
After high school, I attended UCA and graduated with a Bachelor of Music Education degree. After teaching instrumental music in the Pulaski County Special School District for 4 years, I entered the US Navy as an Ensign with a Surface Warfare designator. After 12 years of active duty, I became a civilian again, and I'm currently working as a Warfare Systems Analyst supporting the Navy's Operational Test and Evaluation Force, testing new weapons systems. I was married for 16 years before my wife passed in 1999. I have since remarried to another wonderful woman.
School
High School was one of the best times of my life. I believe it was the most significant period of personal growth I ever had. It definitely set the tone for the rest of my life!
College

eated me like family--yes, they even straightened me up when I needed it! I couldn't have asked for a better college experience!
Military
Although teaching was my first best destiny, I felt the urge to serve my country as well. I served as a commissioned officer in the US Navy for 12 years. It was strange going from being a music teacher to being in charge of missile systems, guns, and torpedoes. Especially since I had never fired a gun before that! I also served a year of that time with the US Marine Corp in Okinawa Japan during the first Gulf War. That was interesting! Now that I'm off of active duty, I help develop new weapons systems by testing them under operational conditions; sort of like Consumer Reports tests products.
During those 12 years, I saw most of Europe and a lot of Asia. And I was always glad to get back to the USA! There's no place like home!!
