Frederic's Story
Military
I joined the Navy in Frankfort, Germany in Sep '88. I shipped to boot camp in Feb '89. After 9 weeks of basic training, in Orlando Florida, I attended the first phase of the Navy's Nuclear Power Program. I got disenrolled before being assigned as a Machinist-Mate and I got sent to my first ship, the USS MOINESTER (FF(T)-1097). After a 3 year tour I had been promoted to Damage Controlman (DC) Third Class. I also married wife #1.
I then served on the USS SIMON LAKE (AS-33), home ported in Sardinia, Italy. After a AWESOME 4 year tour I then reported the the USS MCCLUSKY (FFG-41), home ported in San Diego, CA.
My next assignment was to Naval Recruiting District (NRD) Chicago. Yes, I was a recruiter. After 3 grueling sub-freezing winters, I returned to San Diego, CA where I was assigned to the Shore Intermediate Maintenance Activity (SIMA). I brought 2 cats and wife #2 with me to San Diego.
For the next 5 years I served on board the USS BOXER (LHD-4), home ported in San Diego. I then served on the USS MOBILE BAY (CG-53), where I completed my 9th and final deployment. I returned to
San Diego on 8th of Oct 2008. Now I am FINALLY retired as of March 1st 2009.
Since joining the Navy I have visited the following places: St. Thomas, Halifax...Expand for more

I am looking to re-connect with people from my past to include both military and high school class-mates.
FYI: Below is a description of what a "Damage Controlman" does.
I'm rated as a Damage Controlman First Class (E-6). I'm basically a fire fighter. However I also maintain fixed & portable extinguishing systems, train the crew in basic damage control tactics, and provide technical guidance regarding Chemical, Biological, and Nuclear(Radiation) attacks (CBR). We respond to every ship emergency except medical calls. I have approximately 7 Damage Controlman to help accomplish these tasks.
