Frederick's Story
Hi! I'm Fred. 62 yrs old. Single. Retired.
Like NASCAR and Syracuse sports.
I have been Caregiver for my Mother since my Dad passed in 1985. More so, for the past 10 years, or so.
This takes up most of my time. She was 90 on April 30th, 2010. She passed away on Feb 04, 2011..
I have been out of the service for some time. Discharged November, 1971.
I am a strong supporter of all in uniform. I may not agree with all of what's going on, but I will always support the Service men and women for doing their job. If not for them, you may not be able to read this now.
We have a long heritage of service to our country. My Dad was in the US Army and served in the Philipines and New Guinea. Several Uncles served in WWII & Korea. My Uncle Howard was KIA in Normandy. My Uncle Ed was a POW twice in WWII. (This I didn't know until after he passed in 1990) I have a Nephew who served in Kosovo and Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne. He is still o...Expand for more
n active duty.
I served at Camp Evans (Near Phu Bai), VIETNAM in 1970-71 with the 1/506TH INF. 101ST ABN. Two of my brothers, also, served in VIETNAM - Richard about 1961-62: Temporary (In and out) duty from Okinawa as Mechanic. William - USN - DaNang, VIETNAM - 1966. I have five brothers and all six of us served.
I have been a member the American Legion and VFW since I got an address in RVN in 1970, holding numerous offices from local to State level including Commander at Post and County and District Vice-Commander and SGT-AT-ARMS at State level.
I still wear my uniform on Veterans' and Memorial Day because I am proud of my family and my service.
As family historian, I have records of family members serving as far back as the Civil War. Family imigrated about 1840 to US, so no US service before that.
Sorry, if I ramble, but, like I said, I'm proud of our history.
