Frederick's Story
I got back home two weeks ago after driving to Long Island after my brother's death. We poured his ashes into the Great South Bay where he went every morning lately too look out to sea. The marina there was where he kept his boat for years talking the family to Fire Island. I have brought some of his ashes back to Tucson to spread at Gates Pass where we spread the ashes of our father and grandfather overlooking Old Tucson Movie Studio.
After spreading the ashes we hit some golf balls at his favorite driving ranges then wen out to Fire Island for a lunch on the beach. I haven't had my feet in the Atlantic since the 1960's.
After that weekend I went to Oswego to visit my youngest son who moved back there in January. He drives a semi loaded with aluminum coils from the aluminum plant there to Hamilton, Ontario from where they are transferred to Detroit for new Ford 150's.

pent four days there so there wasn't a whole lot of time to do anything. I saw only one of my former colleagues before leaving and driving home. I did do a little ancestry research on my wife's family as they have lived in and around Oswego County since the late 1700's. I visited several rural cemeteries photographing grave markers and noting information on some very worn stones. I didn't have the time nor materials to do rubbings which is the best way to bring up very eroded letters and numbers.
Over 16 days I spent 9 on the road, 4 going and coming from NY and one traveling between Long Island and Oswego traveling a total of 5500 miles. Except for the horrible time going through NYC twice, not being able to find my mother's cemetery in Patterson, NJ and a truck fire in Las Cruces, NM stopping traffic for a while as I was leading home the trip was largely uneventful.
