Gail's Story

After High School, I attended Fullerton College and worked as an Excutive Secretary to the Contracts Manager and then as a Buyer in the Aerospace and Defense Industry. In 1976, I married and moved to "then" West Germany. It was a wonderful and exciting adventure. So many different things to do and see. History. The first job available - "unloading trucks and stocking shelves at the commissary". Yes, all 97 lbs. and 5'2" of me. It was a killer. After 2 months I could finally lift a 70 lb. bag a dog food. I made it. Then an opening for a less physically intense job opened up. I was now ordering product and re-supplying the commissary. A few months later I landed a wonderful job working with the Recreation Services Officer in charge of 8 recreation facilities. She was a year older than I, and we worked hard. Yes, she made me work out with her after work too. However, after those workouts we walked down to the German village and had coffee and pastry. Finally, Yea! Then we received our first 100% I.G. on the base. We then set up the first Tours and Travel program for Military Personnel, and Military Personnel with Family. We were able to scout out great places to visit. We traveled all over Germany, then to France, Austria, and Spain. Many times on our own money, which there was little of - but we made it. We learned all about the trains, hired buses, found Museums and Churches, Concerts "like Motzart", Puppet Shows, Operas, quaint Restaurants and I...Expand for more
nns. 100% on the next I.G. We both received promotions and increases in rank. The sad part was she had to leave for another assignment. After my increase in rank I went to work for for the American School system. They called me "Sargent Bilco", because I could obtain anything and wheel and deal. I was also the Safety Officer. Third 100% I.G. I earned my AA degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland while I was overseas, and I continued traveling as much as I could. I was so fortunate to be able to travel to Belgium, Luxemburg, Holland, Paris "4 times", Austria, Italy, Monaco, and Switzerland. Even got to see our "Jeffrey Lee" in Geneva. Amazing. I did quite a bit of voulnteer work while I was overseas, and that was very rewarding work. When I returned to the United States, I went to work for an Oil Drilling Corporation, I was lucky enough to work with Red A Dare on a Rig Fire, I stayed at the office, to make sure all his travel arrangements, led him to the destination on time. When the Corporation moved to Texas, I went back to work in the Defense and Aerospace Industries, as a Buyer, International Subcontracts Manger, and Contracts Manager. I traveled the United States and negotiated many contracts. Loved those jobs. I earned my B.S. Degree from the University of San Francisco, in Organizational Behavior. Wonderful Education from there. I have an Art Degree and an Educatiion Degree. I am currently working on my Art projects.
