Gail's Story

School I also attended Roosevelt Public School during the same year I attended Prince Charles. It was an awful long walk in the winter from Oxford and Highbury down to 3rd Street. No matter how many short cuts one took, it was still a long cold walk along Oxford Street. Believe it or not I did enjoy my four years in high school. I remember so many classmates and school bus riders. That was a fun time in my life. How many people can say they enjoyed school? I guess one of the many craziest moments of high school was when the school bus didn't arrive so everyone went home. Around 9:30 am the bus did arrive - at my house - not over at the bus stop and I sure was NOT ready for school at that moment. I always wanted to be a secretary on an ocean liner when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were right as I was too young to do something like that.. A childhood memory would be living overseas as a kid when Dad was in the army and when we moved to Camp Petawawa, I remember sitting down at the corner watching them build the public school as there was no school building at that time. Everyone who was of school age was transported to the village of Petawawa to attend school. I have lived in several places while growing up, attended lots of public schools but only one high school (thanks Dad) and then when I got married, we did the "let's move" thing lots. Got to see a lot of Ontario and the Prairie provinces where I am still living. I hope my old school mates remember me as the quiet person I was in school but the fun person I was out of school. e things that I have learned from my kids is that they respect and love me in both the good times and the bad times. I also learned from them that I do not have to do everything in one day...there are seven days in a week...not one day. To be truly happy I would be living close to the mountains, retired with some guy who loves me ... who he is, I do not know as I obviously haven't met him yet. I have had a few careers over my life span: banking; office work; bailiff; motherhood and a bunch of jobs. My first crush of course, was a teacher at Knollwood Park Public School. He left there and went to teach at Lady Beck School. My heart was broken for a weekend but I recovered quickly. The weirdest job I ever had was being a bailiff. I had to evict people from their dwelling; seize their mobile homes for past due lot rent: seize and remove their vehicles, etc. To know me, you would not think I could ever have done such a job. People thought I was too shy and quiet. Did I ever fool them!! If I had one do-over, I wouldn't take it. I am happy with where I am in my life and a do-over would not allow me to be in this place with my family and grandkids. Something would have to change with a do-over and I am not willing to take that chance. So ..... If I were to attend a high school reunion, what would surprise everyone ... my ability to talk to everyone on different levels from the snotty ones all the way down to the real people. My first job was at a bank, where I got paid very little to be a teller. What I remember most about it is that I felt I was doing an important job that made me happy..
