Looking back on my days at GHS, one of my best memories is standing under the arbor at the front of the school, and smelling the wonderful aroma of fresh baked bread drifting from Claussen's Bakery. After graduation, at the end of that summer, I went to work for "Ma Bell" - Southern Bell Telephone- as it was known then, as a long distance operator. I loved the job, but not the hours. During my employment with Southern Bell I also worked a year in Charleston. Upon returning to Greenville, I decided to try something different. One of my girlfriends had moved to L.A., California and kept writing me to come out there. So, I did. Living in L.A. was quite an experience then, I can only imagine what it would be like now! After a year there, I decided to return home. Upon my arrival back in Greenville I went to work at the Credit Bureau. In 1968 I met my Husband and married and moved to Leesville, S.C. where I have been ever since. We had two businesses. A small restaurant and a Mom & Pop General Store. We sold the restaurant after about 5 years or so and put all our effort into the store. We were located three miles from Lake Murray, a big tourist attraction, also great for the locals.
