Garrett's Story
Life
Well I left LP and opened a business in Oroville, Action's Print and Trophy Shop. I was not happy with this job so I went back to Butte and received my AA degree in Administration of Justice in 1976. I attended the 12 Basic Academy at the Butte center and was hired as a Butte County Sheriffs Deputy, assigned to the Jail. I hated that job and in March 1978, I was hired by Oroville Police Dept. as a patrolman. I enjoyed that job until March 1983, I was forced into retirement by the city.
In 1988 I attended Columbia Junior College where I finished an accounting degree, received degrees in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, Travel and Tourism, and Food service Management. I got married in 1990 and we had the food and beverage concession at an auto auction in Freemont, CA.
I moved back to Oroville 1n 1995, alone, and started to live again. I spent most of my time with my parents, and we were involved in the Sons of the American Revolution, on the Chapter, State, and National level. Pop wa...Expand for more
s elected Historian General, a national office and I became the National Color Guard Commander. Pop and I were both State Presidents and Vice President General of the Western District. We were only the second father and son to win the Minuteman Award, the highest award the society gives.
I was lucky enough to go to Paris and represent the United States at the 225 anniversary of the French/American alliance in the Revolutionary War. I was able to see things most people will never see. I got to sign the register at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. I also was asked to retire the National Colors at the National Cemetery at Normandy, where Saving Private Ryan was filmed.
Now I play golf, fish, and my favorite job is cooking for the Pebble Beach Company, at the AT&T National Pro Am golf tournament in February.
I Discovered on 1-24-11 I have ITP an autoimmune disease, I also found out I had cancer on my kidney. The kidney was removed on April 13th, now I am suffering from two protruding disks.
