Gary's Story

Life Married Diane in 1966 divorced in 1971,remarried in 1971 and lived on the Peninsula with Barbara until 2000, when she passed away after fighting breast cancer for 12 years. I never had children by either marriage. Stopped working in 1997 and haven't looked back. Currently live in the airport community at Cameron Park, CA (near Placerville) and have four airplanes in the hangar, a Cessna and two homebuilt airplanes, two of which are formula one pylon racers. I enjoy working on and flying all of them. I also enjoy camping, fishing and traveling and I am beginning to enjoy my second childhood here in the Sierra foothills. I just completed my rookie year, September 2002, as a Reno Air Race pilot in the Formula One class finishing 5th in the silver class after qualifying on the silver class pole at 219.726. I was the fastest slab wing Cassutt at Reno this year by a blistering 1 mph. Recently married Michaleen Plain (10/19/02). We purychased a new motorhome and went on a one...Expand for more
month tour of the southwest and are currently continuing our honeymoon in Cameron Park. We just returned from Reno 2003 where I qualified at 230.237 and on the silver pole again this year. We improved our finish by six places this year finishing 7th in the gold and now have the distinction of being the fastest stock slab wing Cassutt to ever qualify at Reno. Mikki and I became grand parents on May 1, 2004 to Lierra Michaleen and did not race at Reno this year, and sold #38 38 Special that we took to Reno in 2002 which lost the canopy after qualifying and was not able to continue. I decided to leave the Air Racing to the younger folks this year and sold #21 Blackjack and delivered it to its new owner in Southern Calif. We will be grandparents again on August 16, 2006 to Lierra's little brother Eli. We decided to go cruising and purchased a 2001 Bayliner 3488 Command Bridge cruiser that we berth Delta Bay Marina on the delta loop. We are looking forward to spring and summer.
