Gary's Story
Life
I spent over 25 years as a professional musician, starting out in a band from Watsonville that was originally called "The Coachmen", then "Gary and the Coachmen" and finally in 1966 we became "English Leather". We played many dances at Watsonville High, the Santa Cruz County Fair, Monterey and Carmel but our favorite place was always the "Coconut Grove", opening for bands like "The Tikis", who became "Harpers Bizarre", "People" who had the hit song "I Love You", "The E-Types", "Syndicate of Sound", and "Stained Glass" as well as headlining ourselves. I continued playing after moving to El Dorado County in 1980 and was in the top booked band (Back Street Blvd.) two years in a row at the CA. State Fair. I quit playing, except when called upon by my old band, in 1990.
I was a Realtor for 18 years and have spent the past 25 years working as a mortgage banker doing home loans.
I've been married for 48 years to my beautiful wife, the former Gayle Giggy. Gayle is an award winning floral designer, (lots of first place awards at the El Dorado County Fair and some third place wins at the State Fair) who now spends all her time just taking care of me and our home.
We have two wonderful grandsons, Travis (27) and Dawayne (30), both are musicians also. The oldest one, Dawayne, spent three and a half years in the ARMY, one in Iraq, and now...Expand for more
lives in Colorado. The youngest, Travis, lives in the Michigan, is married to Krista and we now have a Great Grandson, named after my late brother Gregory. Travis is a licensed.pilot They are our life, and are so much fun to be with.
We love to travel, (Gayle loves Maui the best), and have dinner with old friends, (she's a GREAT cook). We went to Vancouver and Victoria a few summers ago (took Travis with us because he always wanted to see Canada) and also visited with Bob and Karla Garrison in Seattle, great friends from Watsonville, and both incredible singers I used to play with. Our latest trips have been to Pidgeon Forge, Tenn. (Dollywood is great) and spent a week in Yellowstone, an Alaska cruise, Yellowstone again and Colonial Williamsburg as well as Hersey and Gettysburg..
In April 2009 I celebrated my 60th birthday (WOW) in Carmel with friends from English Leather: Chuck Hernandez, his wife Lisa, Danny Jamison, Bob Garrsion, and Bob's wife Karla, who was in another band with me called Sabbathe. Gene Mason, the lead singer from People! joined us and at our jam later he sang his hit song "I Love You". We had a great time.
EMAIL me if you remember the bands, or just want to chat. They also included Dan Jamison, Chuck Hernandez, Bob Garrison, and the late, great Joe Dela Cruz! I would love to hear from you.
