Gayle(Gary)'s Story
Life
Hi all! Well, I spent the 10 years after graduation in N.Carolina and Virginia(what a culture shock from Manhasset!), although I certainly learned alot about other areas of the country and how racism was so institutionalized in the south in the '60's and 70's! I earned a B.A & Masters (English Lit) from Virginia Commonwealth Univ whilst living in Richmond. In 1977, I became a professional pilot and flew seaplanes in NY and Key West for our family business.I flew some very interesting people including alot of celebs like Billy Joel, John & Yoko ( My father's airplane had a "mechanical malfunction at their dock one day!), Cal Klein, Perry Ellis (a wonderful friend),Herb Allen, etc. We sold the business, in 1991, to Pan American Airbridge. In 1978,I married Sally Bolling Todd and had two children-Sara-now 31-& Kevin-23.
Sara graduated from Mary Washington College in 2004 then a Masters in Ed. in 2005. Kevin graduated from Rutgers in 2014.
After divorcing in 1999 and going through a big change called "Gender ...Expand for more
Reassignment", I am now Gayle Hart Michener and live in St. George, Staten Island and I am brokering Aviation insurance/surety for a large global brokerage. I get to deal with all of the premier aircraft operators in the world and fly my own aircraft (Cessna 206 amphibian- Edo floats!) to see some of my more local clients.
We were located in #2 World Trade Ctr.on 102-105 flrs.when Sept. 11 happened; surviving this spurred me and aided me in my transition from male to female. I currently have a wonderful boyfriend( who grew up in Manhasset!!) and a great relationship with my two beautiful children. Sadly, I did miss our 40th reunion as my father was stricken with cancer and died over that summer of '07. I was very close to him and took it quite hard.
I still play guitar and chill by playing my '65 Guild Starfire I,, 12 string Rickenbacker and many others.
Well, that's a little bit about what I've been doing for the past 40 years! I'd love to hear how the reunion went, if anyone would care to tell me about it!
