Gary's Story

I have been married since 1999 to my second wife- Thuy Bich Dao who is from Vietnam. We do not have children (except Cooper, our 100 lb yellow Lab). But we have a huge extended family from her side which provides a wonderful family life for me since my children are all over the world. I have three children, Angela (with Monica) 1967, lives in Harrison Township, MI and has one child, Madison (2004), Corina (1976) MA from UC Berkeley, works for the US Government, State Department- USAID and is stationed in Bangkok, Thailand, and James (Jamie)(1980) who is completing his PhD in Biology at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, AZ. His wife Cinnamon had there first child last month- Aspen. As you can see I am proud of them. I have lived and worked throughout the US and Canada, including Vancouver Island as a commercial salmon fisherman when I was young to owning a chicken farm in Georgia where I taught drafting at a nearby technical school. In my 30's I lived with my family in Zen Buddhist communities in the San Fransisco area. SF Zen Center and Green Gulch Zen were home when my last two children were born. I was assistant director of Sonoma Mt Zen Center before moving to my present area of San Jose/Cupertino. From 1992 to 2001 I spent summers and sabbaticals on my ranch in Montana near Yellowstone National Park. (I sold the ranch in 2001). Presently I live and work in the San Jose, California area- see work bio at bottom. My main activity outside of work activity is writing books (40 and counting). Not very lucrative but I have been at it since 1978 and can't seem to stop. __________________________________ Also see: walkingfishbooks.com I write children's books and journals for outdoor activities. __________________________________ Also see: cad-resources.com/SFV.html I founded and fund Scholarships for Veterans, a not for profit organization awarding community college scholarships to recent veterans in Santa Clara Valley. We have given 9 scholarships so far. __________________________________ Also see (from my work site): cad-resources.com For the last 30 years, Louis Gary Lamit has been a full time instructor and department head at De Anza College in Cupertino, California, where he teaches Creo Parametric.
