Life
I've changed things up, and I am now teaching second grade (started in 2018). I moved back to the Detroit area in 1998 after living in the Lansing Area for 11 years (I'd been doing educational technology for ages).
CURRENT LIFE:
I live in my condo in Dearborn, and I'm still single, and have no kids. I travel when I can (Costa Rica over a dozen times, Prague, and England a few times), rollerblade and bicycle when it is nice out. My mom is still in Berkley, so I'm in that direction often. I still love movies and miss when we used to cut class for opening day premiers!
EDUCATION SINCE BHS:
After graduating from Berkley High, I went to OCC for a while (TV Production and Communications) and then to Michigan State University. At MSU, I got my BS in Computers (Lyman Briggs) and my MA in Educational Systems Development (Instructional Design/Technology) and stayed a few more years getting credits toward my Ph.D. After 11 years(!) of classes (except the summer I worked at a camp), I joined the full-time workforce.
WORK SINCE HIGH SCHOOL:
Almost every job has some computer component (except for t...Expand for more
he front desk in college) and generally has some educational component. I worked for a few computer programming companies during/after high school and at OCC - K-byte, Roklan, Perry Johnson, Inc. Various assistantships while at MSU - Julian Samora Research Institute (got the world's first 5th graders online), Deaf Education (training, gopher/web site), Arts and Hums (support, training, software for the museum), and other assorted stuff. I taught computer classes for kids at Future Kids and a camp in Pennsylvania one summer. I did computer consulting for Detroit Country Day School before working for the Michigan Department of Education. At MDE, we put in a Gopher/Web server in the early days of the Internet, and that was a great experience. Since then, I've worked on a federal project integrating museum primary source materials into education, a combined effort of MSU, Learning Designs, the Henry Ford Museum & Greenfield Village, and a slew of school districts. Then I moved back to the area to be the director of technology for Allen Park Schools and then the Director of Technology for South Redford Schools. Now I'm teaching second grade in Garden City.
