Gary's Story
Well, It's hard to believe that it's 2009. It seems like it has only been a couple of years since graduation, But 24 years, Time sure goes by pretty fast. Back in October when I turned 42 on my birthday I woke up and thought to myself where in the world has the time gone ?
I've been living out here in Earlham since '97. After High School I got a job as a delivery driver for the meals on wheels program, Oh well it's a job. After two years of that I kicked around a couple other jobs until about 1990. My Grandmother Who Raised Me and I called MOM had a apartment house, She was getting up there in years and couldn't do a lot of things she use to be able to do and needed some hel...Expand for more
p running the business, So I had managed the place, until late '95 Mom had hip replacement and ended up in a nursing home she had suffered a stroke, She passed away in 2001.
In Feb, of '97 I myself suffered some health issues I was fighting for my own life, And fighting fluid build up in my lungs, Being in a coma for six weeks in the I C U ward, And then a nursing home to do rehab, A lot of blood,sweat and tears went in to make my comeback. When you lose mobility to walk, talk, feed and dress yourself it's a scary feeling to have.I've been on disability ever since. I've been stable ever since my recovery, and living on my own.
