Gary's Story
My father served with the Air Force out of RAF Chicksands where we were stationed from 1973-1979. I attended both Chicksands Elementry, Alconbury High School, then LCHS High Wycombe. After graduation from LCHS, I went to Costa Mesa, CA to work and attend college but ended up going to Colorado w/family. Things were a little strained and so did a last minute "I need to friggin get outta here" move and joined the Navy (1980)! New what I wanted and how to get it, so this was my vehicle to do so and after crypto tech schools, left Florida for San Vito Italy (1981) then Alaska in 1983. I only wanted to commit to 4 yrs then get out but detailer worked magic to get me into shithot analysis school for those with more service time and rank/experience. So in 1985, took the bonus, took the school in Pensacola FL, and gave them four more years. Went on to repeat the same process leaving P'Cola for Charleston. Then on to Scotland, then Chesapeake, VA. i had been given every school I needed before each rotation to move me up the ranks, but just could not shut my outspoken mouth! I just didn't think I needed to get a haircut every two weeks either, thou my supervisor said different!
Left Virginia for Germany in 1994, married and have two beautiful daughters whom live with their Mother since our divorce. Left the Navy New Years Day 2000 and had the weekend off before going to work as a contractor for...Expand for more
Lockheed Martin in Chantilly, VA., Commuted to Denver and worked with same group I worked with in Germany and traveled between California, Denver, and DC for nearly 5 years before changing companies in 2005 due to the overwhelming amount of time away from home. With L-3Comm, I soon met Christie and have been a family ever since, altogether supporting three girls, her 24 yr old, my 15 and 13 yr olds, her 21 yr old boy, and 2 narcistic cats! Yet I am back to commuting between Chantilly, Charleston and San Diego.
I have run into friends from HS and Chicksands since leaving England, as well as my time in the Navy. Good times and good friends. Been thru lifes lessons many a time with no regrets.
Those that new of my younger brother Scott, he went to Colorado with my parents in 1979 and then on to San Vito Italy in 1980, where he left for the Marines. He remains loyal and remains on active duty still to this day and is on his 28th year of service. He is married to Sheryl and has three daughters also. In those 28 years, he has served in too many wars and conflicts and has managed to return home unharmed each time, I am especially proud of him and fortunate to have him with us.
My parents, Norma and Tom, live in Florida where they have since returning from Italy after his retirement. After working out of Cape Canaveral supporting NASA for years, he has finally retired and taking life slow.
