Gary's Story

Life Well, here I am after 40 years of silence. It took this long just to think about what I wanted to say. I sure am glad I took typing in High School! What did I want to say? Politicians says the same things and do what those who pay them ask them to do. That the Moody Blues were right...there are too many people and it has lessened our quality of life. Life has been up and it has been down, but mostly just level. Sort of like hiking a good wilderness trail. People move in and out of your life and love is the most important ingredient. I am still in good shape and I like to hike, camp, ride a motorcycle, roller blade, swim, travel, and read. I intend to live life and take good care of myself. I finally got it right on the third try. I knew she was out there somewhere and I finally found her. I hope you have found the love of your life. If not, they ARE out there waiting just for you. No, I am not selling anything, except maybe hope. Keep the faith...it will all turn out the way it is supposed to. Besides, who knew any of this would happen when we were 17 and 18. Don't tell your kids. They won't believe you, and they should have to...Expand for more
find out the hard way just like you and I did. Email me if you remember me. I am the same, and yet, I am not the same. How about you? Gary Schafer 65' College My name is Gary Schafer. I went to U.N.M. between 67 and 73 when I graduated. Does anyone out there remember me? If so, say so, so I can see if I remember you...Class of 73 because of Viet Nam...O.k. so I wouldn't have finished in 4 years anyway! Military The advisers at the University were advised to be sure to load up a students schedule with difficult classed for a full load of 15 hours. That included 1hr. labs that took 4 hours. The draft was breathing down my neck (1A) so I joined the New Mexico Air National Guard (Enchelada Airforce) so I wouldn't have to go to Viet Nam and get shot at. The North Koreans seized the Pueblo Ship in "there waters" so the President ordered the activation of the N.M.A.N.G. We were sent to Viet Nam. I was at Tuy Hoa for a year loading munitions on F-100 aircraft. I was only shot at once by a "junk" on the South China sea at night. The A.P. saw the tracers, thankfully I did not. I was glad to get home, but it was not the home I left...
