Gary's Story
Fully retired since Dec 2013. Former Chief of Staff, Flight Operations, The Boeing Company, supporting enterprise flight operations (Commercial Transport, Military Transport, Military Tactical, and Rotorcraft) nationwide, with principal locations including Puget Sound, Long Beach, Mesa, St. Louis, and Philadelphia, as well as several other, smaller locations. I provided support to new aircraft development test programs, aircraft production test flights and aircraft engineering test flights, with a staff of 25 specialists. Essentially, my dream job.
Joined The Boeing Company in 1996, as manager for Integration and Engineering Support for the E-3 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS). Responsible for providing product acquisition, integrated program management, and systems and logistics engineering support to a variety of product teams. Directed development, production, systems integration programs; 205 people representing 15 service functions such as finance, logistics, systems engineering. Led twelve integrated product teams to develop products such as airframe replacement parts, radar enhancements, and on-board computer and avionics upgrades, among others. In all, responsible for 238 individual contracts valued at $600 million.

to joining Boeing, was assistant to the vice president, Aircraft Maintenance Operations for Northwest Airlines [July 1990 to May 1996], responsible for integrated planning, financial and administrative activities, and evaluation of division effectiveness.
Retired from USAF in Sept 1989 as lieutenant colonel. During final assignment [August 1985 to September 1989], served as program manager for international operations as a member of the HQ USAF Air Staff at the Pentagon, responsible for day-to-day operations supporting the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), and several European and African nations, and for providing management assistance to those agencies and governments through the Foreign Military Sales program. Program manager for E-3 AWACS sales to United Kingdom and Republic of France.
Prior to final assignment at the Pentagon, served in flight operations aircrew and staff assignments in the US and Europe.
Master's degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California (Viterbi School of Engineering). Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in art from the University of Wisconsin.
Maggie and I live in Gig Harbor, WA. Our two daughters live relatively close to us.
