Gary's Story
Life
I'm writing this 32 years later since graduating from high school, and wondering - hey - that's rather alarming, since I don't feel I've even grown up yet (just ignore those grey hairs in the beard).
After graduating as a 16 year old, I took a year off - highlights were a 2 month road trip to California with the boys, and a couple of jobs, followed the next year by enrolling at the Alberta College of Art... even though I hadn't taken any art classes in high school. Wasn't I supposed to be a physicist, mathematician or doctor? ...follow your heart.
...and it didn't last - too many distractions in the late 70's (some of you will relate). Quit school, hit the oil patch working seismic, and ended up at AGT (Telus today) - damn, could have been retiring fairly soon with quite a nice pension (ended up working for them three times). Yah, you guessed it - I wandered on...
The 80's - got a real estate brokers license (now what was that all about?) moved out to B.C. Ran my brother's fishing camp at Oyama Lake (outside of Vernon), lived in Pent...Expand for more
icton while working as a sign painter.
This little thing called computers started to blip on the radar, and computer graphics entered the mainstream after I saw "Money for Nothing" - a music video by Dire Straits". Yeh, I want to do that!
Back to school, after a 6 year absence - DeVry was frankly a rip, but it gave me an introduction to the brave new world (that we're living in today). But, no computer graphics!
So... you guessed - I left. Enrolled in what was one of the few (at that time) digital graphics programs at that time in Western Canada. Kamloops - Cariboo College (now Thompson Rivers University). Graduated at the top of the class, back to Calgary, and landed a job in Manitoba as a digital animator working on TV commercials.

this is looking boring now - fast forward...
Back to Calgary, get job(s), meet girl (get married) - children happen, start company (buy house), get mortgage (buy things).
And here I am, today. Still a designer, not a doctor (Ann Klein made it, I hear).
I salute you all...
drop me a line.
