Gary's Story

Life Well... the story is:(in a nutshell) Went into the Air Force at 18. Travelled extensively worldwide for for 10 years(with a broken heart). Discharged in "90". Landed a job in "86" with Airborne Express as a Flight Engineer. Got Married in "90", Divorced in "93"..no kids...whew! Lived the "life of Reilly" for the next 9 years. Moved to Oregon in the mid "90s" my dreamland, What a PLACE! Met the woman I could really get used to and call my Friend as well as my Sweetheart and she was in New York!...got married for the last time. And she came with a 10yo son! My Daughter was born in "04". Now my life would be complete! Ahh Low and Behold! I now, after 20 years, have to train for a change in vocation. I guess B-767 Pilot is not really a downgrade but it is still a difficult change at the ripe old age of 49. It is a long row to hoe but it will be worth it in the long run. ay healthy and keep the family happy... What else is important?? OK, now the add-on. After almost 24 years with Airborne Express/ABX AIR Inc. I am facing the same plight as millions of fellow Americans. I am to be furloughed as of June 15th. Now it is really time to look to what I want to do when I grow up! DHL is making sure our company will struggle to stay alive but with 1/4 of its pilot force. Stay tuned for the next part of the story... Alas! The saga continues. After 3 months unemployed I returned to work flying B-767 aircraft around the world. My now 5yo lil girl is a new person everytime I return home after long stints away. Life for the wife is not as she wanted so it looks as though the end is near. I cannot be home and fly at the same time. We just never got into the married partner groove.
