Gary's Story

In case anyone cares: Ok, so here we go. A few years after DLS I had the opportunity to write songs with Gary Loizzo from The American Breed. I eventually joined the band and played with them for a couple of years. At the same time I was employed by Pacific Stereo and over a period of 5 years I managed 3 of their stores. I left in 1975. (got fired). After the Breed broke up Gary and myself did an album for American Express. We used our demos and called the band “Uncle Willard”. We also did a few commercials including this one for McDonalds. I’m singing the part of IRON. After leaving PS, I went to work for CBS Records and started out in merchandising. After 6 months, I was transferred to Cleveland to do Artist Relations. I was responsible for covering shows for Columbia & Epic Records from Cleveland to Pittsburg. Around 1978 I was transferred to Minneapolis to do promotion for Epic records. I left (got fired) in 1980. I then joined Atlantic Records here in Mpls and spent the next 10 years with them. I left (got fired) in 1990 and went to EMI Records for the next 2 years. The label was consolidated and the position was dissolved. And I didn’t get fired. I went to Best Buy Corporate in 1993 and became the District Media Buyer. During...Expand for more
the next 5 years I created “Made In Minnesota” what would be 3 CD’s giving local talent visibility in all our stores in MN & ND. I left (got fired) in 1998, and then spent a little over a year at Guitar Center as a Inventory Manager. I left (didn’t get fired) in 2000. About that time I realized I was not good in large corporations. Telling VP’s they were idiots was not good for a career, and I wasn’t going to change. My money manager said I could just work part time and still pay the bills. So up till 2012 I just worked misc. jobs (Home Depot, a non-profit for education and a couple of merchandising gigs. In 2012 I said enough and I took Social Security and became a “Dog Daddy”. Life is good. Mom passed in 2018 at 96. They moved here in 1990 and dad passed in 1995. Never got married, as the “Biz” was not conducive to long term relationships. My friends told me that if I could find a woman half as good as the dogs I’ve had, I’d be a happy guy. I never could, so I’ve stuck with the dogs and have never regretted it. I do some volunteer work with a couple of shelters here and live a quiet life. It’s been a great life. Not many people can spend the majority of life doing what you love. MUSIC!!! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it….
