(Thanks for sharing Amy)They say it takes a village to raise a child. That has never been more clear to me as I reflect on the past 18 years. Family, friends, church, community all play a role in who our children become. I couldn't have asked for a better "village" to help raise my children.
When our children are young, and we go thru the day to day busy-ness of life, we can't imagine doing anything else. The day they take flight into adulthood is some obscure event that will take place sometime in the distant future. Then all of a sudden that day is here. And as time moves ever forward, gaining speed w/ every tick of the clock, there comes a sense of urgency, even panic. "Did I teach him everything he needs to know? Did I forget something important?" The truth is, no I didn't teach him everything he needs to know. And yes, I did forget something important. But maybe the questions I should be asking are: Does he know I love him more than my next breath? Does he know how proud I am of the man he has become? Does he know right from wrong? The answer to these questions is a resounding yes! So faith takes on new meaning as I let go, and trust that he will be fine. Not without some bumps along the way, but with a safety net of love and God's grace. I'm not sure I could ask for more.
