gayle's Story
To start with this Classmates.com service does not seem to be working right and I may cancel it.
But I will try again.
What is my story? Which one? At 79 years old, I have a lot of them I could tell .What did I do after high school? Well, I was married before I finished so I went right into being a housewife and mother. I really was not meaning to set any kind of record but I had three children by the time I was 22-years-old. And then God, himself, apparently felt sorry for me and I did not have any more. Then, I did the whole bit, PTA, Girl Scouts, piano , dancing, voice lessons for the kids. They were all girls so I did not help any with athletics. I just provided some of the cheerleaders.
I went to work when my youngest daughter was 5-years old. Worked as the advertising rep for the Altus AFB newspaper for about five years, was a catalog department manager for one year, worked at a factory for another year and even sold Tupperware for awhile among other things.
Sadly, I had to divorce my husband before the girls were grown. But the oldest was in college, when I took a civil service test and wound up working at Tinker AFB for about 25 years before I took a retirement package.
After that I wrote a book about western artist Fred Olds that took some time.
In 2000 I had heart surgery and I have been operating with some kind of highfalutin'...Expand for more
mechanical heart valve ever since. The valve had a ten-year warranty which was up four years ago.. The doctor sez I'm doing good.
I moved to Hobart in 2007 to be closer to an elderly aunt who did not have any children or anyone to care for her.. I looked after her until she died in 2011. I hired caregivers to help which allowed me to take a part-time job at the General Tommy Franks Museum when it opened. Stayed with that for three years.
I am pretty much a home body now, but I am still able to travel. Two of my girls live in the Pacific Northwest and I go up there now and then. I like to travel. I have been to Europe and back four or five times, but don't plan to do that alone anymore. My favorite vacation spot was the Bahamas but I have not been there since the 90's.
I have been able to do some things which I never dreamed I would do when I was back in Gotebo.
When my aunt died, she left me a 160 acre farm which is both a blessing and at times quite a problem. But I am hanging on. One of my grandson's is here and he is a lot of help.
Well, I think that is story enough.
Send me an email, any of you, if you feel like it. I've been in a lot of places but I think Gotebo people are still just about the best.
Sincerely,
Gayle Holly Glaspie Goodman (I picked up a second husband out at Tinker, a man named Goodman who passed away some years ago.)
