Gaylen's Story

My story is quite boring. I am the guy that everyone in my time knew. I was better known at school, and am still know today as Gator Bug. Most everyone calls me that except my mom, and preachers wife.I started at E.A.A the first year it opened as a fith grader. My teacher if any remember her was Mrs. Walker. I'll never forget Mrs. Hood. The biggest fear I had was that after getting in trouble, she would tell my parents on me and I would be in way worse trouble, but she never did that I know of. She was a huge influence in my life. Speaking of big influences, even though I enjoyed most of them, four others inspired me immensely. Mrs. Runnels, Mrs. Cannon, Marlin Singletary, and coach Wayne Williams. To the four of them I owe most of who I became. I lived for one thing growing up. It was football. I wasn't big, fast, or forocious, but I had a love for the game and was not afraid to get hit, or hit others. I know I was a joke but they nicknamed ne the spark plug of E.A.A. Because I had been convinced by some of how dumb I was I believed them and failed many classes. Not having enough credits to graduate with my class and knowing it, I w...Expand for more
as quite discouraged my first senior year. However one of my teachers (Mrs. Runnels) told me and convinced me that I wasn't stupid, and I actually did quite well that year. The following year, I went the whole year for 1 credit. With coach Marlin as my math teacher and Mrs. Cannon joining in with Mrs Runnels, I had my greatest year ever, and was actully sad that it had to end. After graduting I joined the Louisiana Army National Guard. serving eight years. In that time, I received Jesus as my personal Savior, and worked as a laberor, and a pipefitter. In 1986 I joined the United States Air Force. Got out of the military and went to Bible college for a while and returned to Louisiana. I am currently disabled as diabetes has taken my eye sight and am legally blind. One thing t5hat blindness can't do though is take away the very very fond memories of East Ascension Acacemy. When peoople think of me, I hope they will think of me with a smile and not with malace and regret. I have always found that no matter if I like or don't like someone I can still find something nice to think about them. I hope they will find something nice about me.
